What is placenta previa?

Placenta previa occurs when the placenta implants in the lower part of the uterus and partially or completely covers the cervix. This condition is significant because it can lead to complications during labor and delivery, such as severe bleeding for both the mother and the baby.

In contrast, situations where the placenta grows in the upper uterus, detaches prematurely, or is located at the sides of the uterus do not involve the cervix being obstructed by placental tissue. These conditions are not classified under placenta previa.
